I know what you mean about being creative in two areas. I've been working on my novel (just finished it) and have not done much with haiku. I try to write one in my journal every day, but they are not good ones. I feel I MUST do at least this much, so they get dashed off rather quickly and no time spent on revision. Maybe later. I'm still posting on my blog, but this doesn't take much time since I post only published work.

Hi Adelaide - Well, I'm glad to know I'm not alone - although I wouldn't wish the feeling on anyone, it's still easier knowing others experience the doldrums, creatively. I know the feeling passes - just give it time, I guess. Thanks for your comments - and I've never seen repetition in your haiku, or haiga - you're a terrific poet.

I can only echo what Bill said about questioning one's ability to create. Lately, I feel that my haiku has gotten repetitious, that either I or somebody else has already written about the feeling or image.The only thing to do is to keep at it, whatever the creative endeavor is, even if we thing the work is not the best. Sometimes we are too hard on ourselves.

Hi Bill - I don't know about your other endeavors with poetry, but when it comes to haiku you are a master and have been my mentor for as long as I have been aware of haiku. You should never doubt yourself with your talents at haiku - you "da man".

"He's begun to question himself." I know the feeling, Warren, as does anyone who tries to work creatively in any form – and you've done fine work in poetry and painting.

Through all my years as an English professor, I couldn't write poetry, because always, before I was halfway through line 2, I'd be criticizing line 1.

A great thing about haiku is that it sneaks up on you and is "done" before you know it. Then, and only then, you invite your inner critic to go to work.
